A new OS for my laptop? (and possibly other ramblings)

Well, in trying to install ChromiumOS to my Lenovo IdeaPad U400 (which I found thankfully fully works, when I dropped it, the only damage it took was cosmetic, but the disk drive is unusable, I wasn’t using that anyway) I found a somewhat older (but still active) Linux distro called JoliOS which uses the JoliCloud service, and I’m typing this post from JoliOS with the WordPress plugin. will it make it easier to keep this blog updated? possibly. is it a nice OS? very much so, but it does have the disadvantages of being based on an Ubuntu release from 2 years ago (that’s 4 releases right there, it’s based on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat) and as such I had to figure out why it wasn’t detecting my wifi card, the cause was the kernel being too old, and the drivers not being there, so I had to grab the 3.5 kernel and the iwlwifi drivers, after that, all worked well!

Now, I’ve gotten myself a desktop, a pretty nice one, a CyberPowerPC Gamer Ultra which I swapped out the RAM on (it now sports 8GB of Corsair Vengeance) and added a wifi chip. that’s my main gaming rig, and as such it runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as some of my games refuse to run on Linux, even with recent advances in that area. but gaming doesn’t take near as much of my time as it does for some people. I’d rather balance that with other things than game 100% of the time, as if I did devote that much time, I’d get bored. plain and simple. what I COULD do for hours on end is stare at computer code and find errors in it, as that’s just a big puzzle to me. Gotta love when working with computer code is like working with a puzzle to yourself.

anyway, enough rambling from me.
